Miho Kawauchi is an artist who tries to capture the essence rather than the appearance . The themes she deals with are diverse, but what comes forth especially through her source of inspiration is her serene individuality. For example, in “Mariage”, a work in which flowers have a symbolic meaning, she suggests ever so quietly that life events occur in a natural cycle.

One of the characteristics of Kawauchi’s works is the numerous depictions people. She excels in the portrayal of the inner side and hidden emotions of the models. If you consider the psychological themes of the four works presented here, “Contemplate,” “Reunion,” “Gaze,” and “Hear the Sound,” you will find that she is a master at reconstructing human emotions on the canvas.

Looking at this collection of works, you will immediately notice that she has attained a high level of skill in watercolor.

Kawauchi also displays an outstanding prowess in oil painting. As well as the basics in the proper use of the matiére and canvas, she has reached a level of representation that enables the expressive portraits to be preserved forever for posterity.

From here I will focus on each of Kawauchi’s work which deserves a through analysis. I hope you can enjoy the delicate charm of these works.

The first, “Dozen Roses,” was probably painted using a technique that is unique to oil painting called “Wet in Wet.” The beautiful effect brings out the voluminous flowers in a fantastic way. What stands out in the wonderful compositions of “bloom” and “Mariage” are the intense colors. These colors, which are layered with beautifully controlled and uninhibited brushwork within the realm of the painting create an amazing relief effect. Among the series of works dealing with everyday themes, “Contemplate” in blue and gentle yellow tones expresses a moment in which the soul seems far away from reality with an extremely meditative and overwhelming sense of peace. In “Reunion,” the representation of the young woman in pastel tones is superb, and it may be said that Kawauchi has reached the pinnacle of her art with this work. The quality and precision of the brushwork are also evident in the three works, “Gaze,” “Hear the Sound,” and “Audrey,” of which the compositions are also brilliant. “The Sun” and “The Moon” are works in a fiery style, with intense inner feelings. They prove that Kawauchi is a fascinating artist with a tremendous ability.
